 Western Hanover Wood Ministry

Our mission statement is to provide firewood to families in west Hanover County who heat their homes and/or cook with wood but don’t have the means to purchase firewood.

The West Hanover Wood Ministry (WHWM) is comprised of three churches who have established woodyards on their premises: Rouzie’s Chapel/Beaverdam UMC in Beaverdam, The Fork Church in Doswell, and Church of Our Saviour in Montpelier. Our area of operation is Western Hanover County, west of I-95 and north of I-64.

Western Hanover Wood Ministry (WHWM) works with local churches, Hanover County Community Resources, and Western Hanover Emergency Action Team (WHEAT) to provide firewood to needy families. During the 2021-2022 heating season, nearly 60 families were supported.

Since its inception in 2005, WHWM has delivered approximately 3,130 truckloads of firewood. At today’s rate of $100.00 a truckload, that’s over $313,000 of free firewood that has been distributed to families in need!

The wood ministry seeks hardwood donations from local families and businesses that can be cut, split and delivered to those in need.

Wood ministry volunteers from each church provide their time, trucks, trailers, chainsaws, splitters, gas, oil, replacement chains and sweat-equity to make the WHWM successful.

If you feel called to work with the Fork Church Wood Ministry or if you have wood to donate please contact Terry Cave or Sid Skjei

Western Hanover Emergency Action Team (WHEAT)

WHEAT is a non-profit organization within Western Hanover County, Virginia, assisting families in need in our community since early 1980s.  WHEAT assists financially and provides food to families in Western Hanover.  WHEAT was formed by a group of people from churches in the Beaverdam area. It has been growing ever since! Approximately 15 churches participate, with several members from each of these churches keeping WHEAT going strong with God’s help. WHEAT serves approximately 200+ families each year.

The Food Pantry is located at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, 15583 Coatesville, Road in Beaverdam, and is open from 5:00-7:00pm on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month.  Each time the pantry is open, an average of 50-60 families, representing 150-200 individuals, are served. Fork Church helps by collecting food for the food pantry, working at the food pantry, and answering phone calls and paying bills from those in need.

If you feel called to help, please contact Elizabeth Berry.
