Join us for Voices of Freedom August 15

As America celebrates its 250th anniversary in 2026, Virginia commemorates  the 250th anniversary of the Virginia Declaration of Rights and 240th anniversary of the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom.  The Voices of Freedom Tour celebrates the courage of those who demanded liberty when dissent was still illegal.

On August 15, from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm, visit six sites in Hanover County that witnessed our transformation from a colony where missing church meant jail time, to a commonwealth that pioneered religions freedom for the world. This self-guided tour highlights the disestablishment of Anglicanism in Virginia after American gained Independence from England and the adoption of the “Statute for Religious Freedom in Virginia” by Thomas Jefferson. Join us in honoring the voices that echo through these historic places – voices that remind us that freedom is never given, only claimed.

Our own historic Fork Church will be the culmination of the tour which starts in Ashland and ends in Doswell. Join us 2-4 pm for a tour of the historic cemetery and the church (where a copy of Jefferson’s “Statute for Religious Freedom in Virginia” hangs in the narthex), music, reenactors, antique cars – even a visit by Sparky the mini-horse! A reception to welcome our tour visitors will be held in the Parish House.
